Seven Things You Need For Baby's Arrival

You are prepared for baby's arrival. But here is a checklist to make sure you haven't forgotten anything.

Organic Cradle Bedding

To bring your baby home, you'll need:

Organic Cradle Bedding

Diapers, baby clothes including baby jacket and baby cap, baby blanket A baby carrier for a safe transport For the car you'll need a baby-safe baby carrier equipment (car seat) for safe driving. Never place the baby carrier on the front seat. Never underestimate the necessity of baby driving safety! Put a sticker on the car: "Baby on board." When you arrive at home, you'll need: A baby crib with bedding Plenty of diapers, baby washcloths, baby towels, baby blanket For baby's first bath, you'll need: Baby shampoo, baby soap, baby lotion, KidScents Tender Tush for baby's delicate bottom. Don't use talk powder - it's carcinogenic. Don't use regular baby bath gel and shampoo - it contains sodium lauryl sulphate and propylene glycol which are known carcinogens! Use only baby products you trust, e.g., Young Living's KidScents line of gentle and safe baby products that smells exceptionally good. When it is feeding time, you'll need: A cosy armchair with foot rest for breastfeeding. There is a special pillow available to cradle baby while breastfeeding. Have some cotton diapers handy. After breastfeeding have a breast pump handy. Have your changing table prepared.
Other important considerations:

When you wash your baby clothes, cotton diapers and towels make sure to use a natural detergent and no chemical softener. Your baby's skin is so delicate, it may react to harsh chemicals and synthetic fragrances. Instead use a mild detergent (a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner may be used) and/or a therapeutic-grade essential oil like lavender, grapefruit or chamomile to make your laundry smell great.

Dry baby's clothes as often as possible outside in the sun. Then iron. Sun and heat from the iron may kill unwanted bacteria in clothes. You can add an essential oil to the steam iron to naturally scent your baby's clothes.

Remember scents go to the memory center of the brain. They will embed a feeling of calm, happiness and protection felt in mom's arms. Years later, even at old age, smelling this scent will instil the same feeling of calm, happiness and protection, and a memory of childhood will bring a smile to the lips.

You can make your baby's experience pleasant and secure, starting at birth and all throughout childhood. A happy childhood lets your baby grow up confident. Essential oils will greatly support baby's well-being.

The Seven Things You Need For Baby's Arrival are:

(1) Diaper, baby clothes and blanket,

(2) a baby carrier,

(3) a safety baby car seat to bring the baby home,

(4) the crib and bedding,

(5) diapers, baby clothes, towels, washcloths and blanket,

(6) all natural baby soap, baby shampoo, and baby lotion, and

(7) an armchair and foot rest for breastfeeding, a changing table and uplifting essential oils for baby's wellness.

Welcome home, little baby!

Introducing A Pet Into The Family

You've finally made the decision. After lengthy discussions as to the pros and cons of owning a pet, you've decided that the time is right. Your children are no longer infants; they have spent plenty of quality time with Aunt Trudy's Labrador Retriever, "Sunny" and her Siamese cat, "Simone". They have played with a neighbor's German Shepherd. Uncle Fred has brought his Border Collie," Billy" over to the house many times. The kids have also learned about animal companions and how to care for them in school where they have turtles, bunnies, gerbils and hamsters in the classroom. Although the kids love every kind of animal, it seems they are most enamored of the canine variety and want a dog of their own.

Organic Cradle Bedding

While the kids have been begging for a dog for a long time (it seems like forever!) you want to make certain that they (as well as you and your husband) are really ready to assume responsibility for the life of another living being that will reside in your home. Your little boy is 8 - his sister is 5. You want your kids to learn responsibility. Still, ultimately you will be the primary caregiver and supervisor of your children. Are you all ready to share this responsibility?

Organic Cradle Bedding

Before you adopt your new canine, do your homework!!! Go on the Internet. Read about and research the various breeds of dogs that most appeal to you and your family and determine which seem most compatible with your personalities and lifestyle. Decide if you want to purchase a dog from a breeder (make sure he's reputable and has references!) or if you'd like to adopt an animal that is in need of a loving home from a shelter or "rescue" group.

There are countless breed specific rescue groups across the country, which feature purebred representatives of virtually every kind of dog from Mastiffs to Dachshunds. These rescue groups are easily located on the Internet and commonly feature a gallery of dogs available for adoption along with details about the animal's age, health and personality.

There are many wonderful, healthy and loving animals that have been abused neglected or abandoned and are in need of loving homes. Too many pets end up in shelters or in rescue organizations simply because their owners lacked sufficient understanding about the breed they selected. Perhaps you can adopt an animal in need of a home!!! Go together as a family so you can see how each of you interacts with a potential adoptee. Most organizations or shelters have special visiting areas and afford you the opportunity to "play" or visit with the animal. Jointly decide which animal is best suited for your family.

Before you take the final step of actually purchasing or adopting a pet, make sure you have asked yourself the following questions: -How much time does my family realistically have to spend with a pet?

-How intelligent/trainable is the breed of interest?

-How well does it get along with other dogs? People?

-How large is it, or if it's a puppy, how large will it get?

-Is the dog good (patient and trustworthy) with children?

-How much exercise and space will it require?

-Is my backyard fenced so that my dog can safely run and play and not escape?

-Can we afford to take care of a pet? Its food and medical costs?

Once you've determined that you can care for a pet, take the pet you've selected to a veterinarian (ask pet-owning friends for referrals) for a check-up to determine if he's healthy or prone to any health problems. Your vet should provide you with a vaccine and regular exam schedule. Ask him to recommend the food and diet best suited to your dog's needs. It is a good idea to have your pet tattooed or micro chipped by your vet as a permanent means of identification should he get lost or stolen. Also, inquire about flea, tick and heartworm prevention and spaying/neutering.

Once you learn that the pet is in good health, make your home dog friendly and safe both inside and out. Check the fence to make certain your dog won't be able to escape. Inside, determine where your pet will eat and sleep. Provide bedding and separate bowls for his food and water.

Have the family decide on the pet's name, then purchase a comfortable, secure collar, an identification tag with his name and your phone number, and a leash.
When your family is ready to take your pet home, each of you should pet and speak soothingly and comfortingly to him. As easily and gently as possible, put on his new collar, name tag and leash. Speak softly and calmly as you guide and help him into your car. Gently pet him.

When you arrive home, orient him to his new surroundings -walk him around your home and introduce him to your back yard while he's still on leash. Bring him into the house and take him to his special "place" - then guide him through your house slowly and calmly so that he will become familiar with it. Allow him to experience the "scent" of each room. Finally, show him his bed and his special place and remove his leash. Give him fresh water and talk to and pet him gently. Give him some doggie toys to play with. Hold him in your lap - cradle him in your arms and welcome him into your family!

So, now, you've completed all your homework. You've read and researched. You've asked the appropriate questions and received answers to them. Your expectations are realistic - And you have finally found the dog of your family's dreams. Good job - well done! You and your family are now ready to enter into one of life's most enjoyable, rich and rewarding relationships and to experience the unconditional love and acceptance that only a beloved companion animal can provide!!!

Congratulations!!!

Baby Rashes

Being a mother of a child with sensitive skin, I often find myself wondering about the rashes my son will sometimes have. There is nothing worse than the feeling of helplessness that you can feel when you do not know what is wrong with your child. For a mother's peace of mind, here are some of the most common skin rashes:

Organic Cradle Bedding

Baby Acne - This is due to the mother's hormones and looks like pimples. Unfortunately, there is no treatment for this, and you just need to wait it out. Baby acne can last for a couple days up to a couple months.

Organic Cradle Bedding

Erythema toxicum - This rash looks like mosquito bites. This is another rash that has no treatment. The causes for this rash are unknown.

Little White Bumps - These are caused by blocked oil glands. When the glands enlarge (which can take a few days up to a few weeks), the white bumps will disappear.

Salmon patches - These are sometimes called stork bites or angel kisses. They are often found at the back of the neck or even sometimes between the eyes. They tend to fade away on their own after a few weeks or months.

Mongolian spots - These are common in dark-skinned babies. They almost look like a bruise and are flat. They are caused by some pigment that didn't make it to the top layer when baby's skin was being formed. These harmless spots usually fade away by school age.

Cradle cap - This shows up usually at1-2 months of age. Yellowish crusts appear on the scalp and can also include a red, irritating rash on the face, behind the ears, on the neck, and even in the armpits. Depending on your baby's symptoms, your doctor can direct you how to proceed.

Eczema - This is red, itchy patches on the skin. You often will see it on your baby's chest, arms, legs, face, elbows, and behind the knees. It is caused by dry, sensitive skin, and sometimes even allergies. Your doctor can determine if the rash looks like eczema and prescribe the appropriate treatment.

Prickly heat - This looks like small red bumps and will show up on areas of your baby's body that tend to overheat and sweat like the neck, diaper area, and armpits. The treatment is to try to keep the area dry and avoid overheating.

Candidiasis - This is a fungal infection and can show up in different ways. It is called thrush when it is on the tongue and looks like dried milk that can't be scraped off. In the diaper area, it looks like an intense red rash. Candidiasis can be treated with antifungal oral gel, liquid medicine, or antifungal cream (or a combination of all three).

Sometimes, your baby's rash isn't caused by any of these (though, these are the most common reasons for a rash). If your child has sensitive skin (like my son has), sometimes the changes you have to make have to do with the fabrics that touch your child's skin. All diapers are not created equal and not all fabrics will affect your child's skin the same. My own doctor recommended when we were having breakouts that we find the softest material we could find and put him in that. That is when fabrics like bamboo come into play. It is hypoallergenic, antimicrobial, and has natural wicking abilities that make it super absorbent. It also has no chlorine, no formaldehyde, and is pesticide free.

Parenting is a tough job. Sometimes it is hard to know what is normal and what is not when it comes to rashes. This is a list of the most common baby rashes you may encounter and how to treat them.

Mattress Buying - Tips on How to Shop

Still sleeping on an old, sagging mattress because you absolutely dread the idea of shopping for a new mattress? Fear no more! This piece will give some mattress buying tips that will ease your worries and equip you with the knowledge you need to buy the most important piece of furniture in your home.

Organic Cradle Bedding

Comparison Shopping
First, when shopping for a new mattress it is important to shop by value, not by price. A good quality mattress will have thicker coils, more padding and inevitably a higher price tag. However, mattress retailers often have sales and promotions that offer quality name brand mattresses for as much 50% off. Therefore, it is important to comparison shop to make sure you're getting the biggest bang for your buck.

Organic Cradle Bedding

Another way to save money on purchasing a new mattress is to buy online. Usually, online mattress retailers sell the same or similar mattresses for less than you'll find in a brick and mortar store because online retailers don't have to pay for store space and sales staff. The money they save in overhead expenses is thereby passed on to the consumer. In addition, some online retailers offer free shipping in the United States and no sales tax to all states except for the one the company is registered in. You'll save hundreds of dollars from free delivery and no sales tax alone!

Features to Look for in a Good Mattress
When shopping for a new mattress there are several features that a good quality mattress will have. The features you'll want to pay close attention to are: comfort layers, support, and durability.

First, mattress padding on the top and in the middle of a mattress are a sign of good, quality components. Years ago it was thought that the harder the mattress the better, but studies show that you'll sleep better when your mattress has some degree of concavity and cradles your body. Mattress padding creates soft comfort layers from luxurious materials that cradle your body and offer a better feel.

Next, you'll want to take notice of the coil count and wire gauge of the mattress set. The more coils a mattress has - the better the quality of mattress it will be. However, the highest number of coils doesn't mean that the mattress is the best one for you. The gauge of coil indicates how soft or firm a mattress is, the lower the gauge of the coil, the stiffer or firmer the mattress is. The coil unit of the mattress provides back support, so you'll want to purchase a mattress that allows your spine to align in its natural curve. You'll want to pay attention to your shoulders, hips, and lower back. Too much support in these areas can create uncomfortable pressure.

Finally, the quality of the materials used and the workmanship of the mattress and foundation directly affect the durability of the product. If you want your new mattress set to last as long possible then follow these tips:

- Buy the highest quality mattress set that you can afford.

- Use the matching boxspring/foundation. Manufacturers make both the mattress and the boxspring to work together. Putting a new mattress on an old, worn out boxspring will compromise the performance of the mattress significantly.

- Use the appropriate frame required for your mattress size. Please note that queen size models require a frame with a center support rail and leg that extends to the floor. King size models require a center support rail with two legs that extend to the floor.

- Most mattresses are backed by a manufacturer's warranty. A good quality mattress will have at least a ten year warranty. However, the length of your warranty should not determine how long you keep your mattress. Your warranty protects you from poor workmanship and defects, not gradual loss of comfort or support. Your warranty may be good for ten years, however, it is possible that you may have to replace your mattress after just seven years.

Mattress shopping does not have to be a frightening experience. Please feel free to use these tips to find out what type of mattress is the best fit for you. Remember, shop for the best value and then buy the best mattress that you can afford. If you shop online, you may save some headache and plenty of money while you're at it.... good luck!
